328i. Specifically, it's a 2007 [pre-LCI] 328i 6MT Sedan w/ Sport Package w/ ~210k miles. I'm experiencing an odd shaking and vibration throughout the car whenever I accelerate. It seems to get progressively worse as I climb through the gears until it's almost unbearable at any speed requiring gears 4-6. Most likely the alternator/waterpump/PS one as it is higher up than the A/C one - for the noise to appear to be coming from the top end. Normally diagnosed with a stethoscope. After the shop changed the engine mounts, valve gasket cover and fixed the oil pan leak (which involved the whole subframe to be removed), I have this annoying resonance/vibration at idle, but never in P or N or D, only when I switch to R, or if, when at idle, I rev the engine and let the revs NHXPLCI. First, I changed the motor mounts. That helped the shaking be not as bad. Then changed the spark plugs, but the shaking persisted, even tho the car got some of its horsepower back. I wasn't satisfied, so I kept digging. Checked every hose I could - no leaks anywhere. Resorted to cleaning the idle control valve. The car runs very smooth now. Very recently I started to notice that there are weird vibration (can feel from the wheel as well as the chair) when the car is at low RPM from around 1300-1600. Lately, both are showing small vibration at idle that can be felt in the seat especially when cold. Much less so when engine is warmer. Indications that you may have this problem are: Lack of power. Heavy engine vibration. Amber Engine warning light. Rough idle. Car goes into "limp mode". BMW have released an 'enhancement pack' which BMW will fit for free most of the time.
